Updated over a week ago

Scribbr's Citation Generator is a tool designed to help you create accurate citations in various citation styles such as APA, MLA, Chicago, and Harvard within a blink of an eye. Here's how it generally works:

  1. Choose your citation style: Start by selecting your citation style from our extensive collection of over 2500 citation styles

  2. Input your information: Enter relevant details such as publication titles, URLs, DOIs, ISBNs, or keywords into the search bar.

  3. Click "Cite": Upon clicking, a list of potential sources matching your input will appear.

  4. Select and generate: Pick the correct source from the list, and voilà! Your citation is created, complete with formatting in line with your citation style, in just seconds.

  5. Continue adding references: You can easily continue building your reference list by adding more sources.

Please remember to double-check the generated citation for accuracy. If the content of the reference does not match the actual information, you can easily manually edit the reference(s).

Overall, the Scribbr Citation Generator aims to simplify the process of creating accurate citations, saving users time and ensuring that their academic or research work meets the required citation standards.

💡 Pro Tip: We highly recommend using the Citation Generator while logged into your account. Citations generated while logged in will remain accessible indefinitely. References generated without being logged in will expire after 30 days.

What is a clipboard?

Whenever you work with the Citation Generator, you will see the button "📋 Copy to clipboard"

Imagine the clipboard like a magic piece of paper on your computer. When you copy something, like text or a picture, it's like writing it down on this magic paper. Then, when you want to paste what you copied, it's like taking that writing from the magic paper and putting it wherever you want, like into a document or an email.

💡 Pro Tip: Easily copy or paste text to and from your clipboard by using CTRL (Windows)/CMD (Mac)+C (to copy) or CTRL (Windows)/CMD (Mac)+V (to paste)
