What is the Paper Formatting service?

With the Paper Formatting service, we want to support you with the formatting of your document. We ensure that the formatting of your document is consistent and professional, using automatic Word functions. For this, our experts follow a set of formatting guidelines. You can choose to have your formatted according to either the APA formatting guidelines, or the Scribbr guidelines.

In the Scribbr guidelines, we edit and/or create four formatting aspects of your paper:

• An automatic table of contents

• An automatic list of figures and tables

• Page numbering

• Coherent formatting of pages and paragraphs.

In the uploading process, we ask you for all the information we need in order to apply the correct formatting to your paper. The questions we ask you are prepopulated with answers that we suggest based on our experience and best practice. You can either stick to this preselection, or you can indicate individual preferences. For example, you can indicate your preferred font type.

Please note that it is not possible to upload documents with specific university guidelines.

In the APA formatting, we follow the official APA formatting guidelines, which can not be adjusted based on personal preferences.

How can I order the Paper Formatting?

To place an order for the Paper Formatting service, simply click “Upload”, upload your document, and select the service from the service list.

What information do I need to provide for the Paper Formatting service?

The aim of the Paper Formatting service, both for Scribbr-style and APA-style, is to create a consistent layout that looks clean and coherent. To achieve this, we follow the information you provide during the upload process of your document, as well as standard academic guidelines.

To ensure that your formatting expert translates your wishes correctly, please indicate the following things in your booking:

• The editing style (APA or Scribbr-style)

• For Scribbr-style:

  • Font size and type

  • Line spacing

  • Paragraph indentation

  • Text alignment (left aligned or justified)

  • Format of page numbering (arabic or roman numbers)

  • If you want a table of contents, and/or a list of tables/figures

Please note that, for the APA style, we focus on checking and perfecting your document rather than implementing the style from scratch.

We also advise that you hand in your paper to us with as little formatting as possible.

What does the APA Paper Formatting service include?

When performing the APA Paper Formatting service, your Scribbr expert will do the following tasks in accordance with the APA 7th guidelines:

• Format the different sections of the document: title page, abstract and keywords, etc.

• Set margins, line spacing, font and indentation of paragraphs

• Add page numbers

• Format headings, paragraphs, block quotes, etc. using style sheets

• Adapt tables and figures, including numbering, title, and format

• Adapt the Table of Contents, if there is one

The APA Paper Formatting service does not include the following:

• Applying APA guidelines to a document following a different style

• Applying APA 6th formatting instead of APA 7th

• Adapting the format to other requirements that are not APA

• Creating a Table of Contents from scratch

• Commenting on the formulation of headings

• Adjusting content of tables

• Moving tables or figures around in the document

What does the Scribbr-style Paper Formatting service include?

When performing the Scribbr-style Paper Formatting Service, your Scribbr expert will apply our standard formatting guidelines, which are based on our experience and best practices. This service therefore includes:

• Make sure your formatting is consistent throughout the document, including:

  • Font type and size

  • Indentation of paragraphs

  • Line spacing

  • Text alignment

  • Spacing before and after a paragraph of headings

• Add page numbers in either Arabic or Roman style

• Add, remove, and/or fix heading numbering.

• Update or generate a Table of Contents

• Update or generate a List of Tables and Figures

• Check your captions for tables and figures, and automate them

The Scribbr-style Paper Formatting Service does not include the following:

• Applying university guidelines from an additional document.

• Creating a title page from scratch.

• Editing the contents and format of tables.

• Creating the content of the captions for tables and figures.

• Moving tables or figures around in the document.

• Adjusting your paper based on the format you had previously, if this does not match with the order details.

Can I order Paper Formatting according to my own guidelines or requirements?

Yes. If you want your paper to be formatted based on your individual wishes, you can indicate your preferences during the upload process. We will then create a custom formatting for you, such as the style of page numbers, a font type or size, and the type of line spacing you want. We do, however, have certain limitations to the possibilities we can offer. For example, we cannot work with different font colors or with specific font types that are not native to Microsoft Word.

Additionally, it is not possible to upload an additional document with guidelines you may have received from your university. You may indicate any additional wishes in the free text box during the upload process.
