To use the Scribbr Plagiarism Check, simply upload your document through the upload button on our website. Here’s how it works:
Upload Your Document: Simply upload your document on our site to start the check.
Advanced Analysis: Our advanced software compares your text with the extensive databases, similar to those used by most universities and publishers.
Free Plagiarism Check: Get a risk assessment and see the top 5 sources matching your document for free. This helps you spot potential similarities.
Premium Similarity Report: Upgrade for a detailed analysis. It not only identifies similarities but also links them to their sources, making it easy for you to spot where you have to add sources. It also includes access to the Grammar Checker, the AI Detector report and Self-Plagiarism checker.
Start resolving similarities: You can directly make changes in the Similarity Report to address any content flagged as potential plagiarism. Resolve similarities that are not cases of plagiarism (such as common phrases or footnotes) or add missing citations where necessary. Once you made these adjustments, you can resolve each similarity to bring that similarity score down! ⬇️
When editing the document directly in the report, please make sure to regularly save your document so you don’t lose any changes.
What database does Scribbr use for the Plagiarism Check?
Scribbr uses advanced plagiarism detection technology similar to the software used by most universities and publishers, ensuring you receive the same or very similar results. Our databases contain various sources, such as (but not limited to):
Academic Papers: Peer-reviewed journals, scholarly articles, conference papers, and research publications.
Websites: Online content, blogs, educational resources, and web pages.
Publications: Books, magazines, newspapers, and periodicals.
The only possible difference is that your university may compare your submission to a private database containing previously submitted work from students. Scribbr does not have access to these private databases (and neither do other public plagiarism checkers). Luckily, many papers, theses, and dissertations are also published in public databases that Scribbr does have access to.
When using the Scribbr Plagiarism Check, you'll also gain access to the Scribbr Self-Plagiarism Checker. This tool allows you to compare your document with your own private documents (or other documents that are not in our database), such as…
Your own past work
Unpublished work from your fellow students
Unpublished PDFs
Internet pages (copied and pasted directly into the checker)
The Self-Plagiarism Check supports the following file formats .pdf files, .docx or .doc files and .txt files. If a document has a different file format from those listed above, we recommend converting it to .pdf or .docx.
How are my documents stored when I place an order for the Plagiarism Check?
At Scribbr, we understand the importance of privacy when it comes to your academic work. This is why we provide a reliable Plagiarism Check that safeguards your documents and personal information.
Will My Sources/Documents Be Stored in a (Shared) Database?
Both our Plagiarism Check and our Self-Plagiarism Checker do not store your document in any public or shared database. We prioritize confidentiality and ensure that your work remains private and secure throughout the checking process.
After one year, your documents will be removed from our database. In addition, you can delete all your personal information and documents from the Scribbr server as soon as you’ve received your plagiarism report. This also means that you will never get a 100% match because the Scribbr Plagiarism Checker does not store documents in a public database.
I uploaded the wrong document to the Scribbr Plagiarism Checker. Can I get a free new check?
If you accidentally uploaded the wrong document to the Plagiarism Checker, we are unable to offer a refund for this check or provide a discount for another check. This is because our system begins the check immediately upon payment, and our team is unable to intervene and change the document.
